There's been a ringing in my ears since you left, a bursting of the threadbare seams, my sense of balance is absent and I am bereft of direction if I even am anymore...and here at the very ending edge of existence, I plant my hooves like a stubborn mule, I bray loudly like a damned fool to try to drown out that last constant tether keeping me here, human. I even bite off the chord and gnash and gnaw, fighting to sever the final bind that ties me to your memory, to the promises that shriek at me now from the dark—WHY WON'T THEY STOP? HEE HAW HEE HAW!. But even a bear, even an actual ass would know better, would answer the call of this tugging tether—can I do better? Must I struggle, writhing in the dirt to do worse? I turn my face to your forest, I feel your leaves soaked breeze dab dry my tears and my shame, I reach for my phone, and I dial those numbers I know so well... My intent is genuine—will you answer the call of my heart?
