"If music be the food of love..." Wait a minute now--to the ears of a chef, this sounds off like hot air, a fanciful spark, but nothing of substance. Even a full course meal will find us full of a love more true, says I--but love comes in degrees of profound warmth, a rising heat, and the kisses I would give you could scarce be counted with the thermometer's height, the love I would make with you, my girl, would lick from low to high, higher, higher still, rising likethe frightful, flaming spire of heaven that flourished proud Pharoah to shame in the old Exodus--no: to see the rising heat of my love for you, girl, look in the morning to the East, stare up straight like the clock's hands come noon, see it sail off, as I hold you close in my arms, to make hot as it rises on farther lands in the time of twilight, and come with me as it rises for you, in me, as we form stars like nebulas in our sweltering night. And every day will the sun of my love burn and light the way for you to your home in my warm, sustaining embrace.
