Humble Blessings and Questions--For Sophia, Married 39 Years

Transcription
It's been 39 years since you both slipped on those rings, since the golden circuit began. How much has it grown since then? Surely, the shore you set off from, together, has receded from view, become one with the halo-horizon wrapped proudly around the sea of your love, deep and expansive... or so I imagine. But I'm only a young man of 29 with an overactive mind and an underachieving heart. At the temple of your marriage, I place what I have: awe and questions, flowers and flowers. Oracle, priestess of love, what does your mind's eye procure when I speak the word: love? Where do you go, Sophia? Does your husband go, too, when you go there? Is it all worth it? Could you admit impediments? What have you learned? Were they lessons learned sweet, or in blood? How did you know? Does it get easier? How happy should one be? What pleasure? What pain? Is it really the little things—letting her have the last slice, holding her hand? Or is it about the grand gestures? The bigger picture? Or the shared moments of pain? Having someone see your grief, hold it with you, hold you through? How did you both know? Would you do it all again? Say I do I do I do with every rotation around the golden ring of your love? From where I sit, Sophia, the life you've shared with your husband makes for a beautiful sight, a blessed gift, a reason to sing—I bless your shared song with what goodness I can and I pray for today's love, tomorrow's and that your lives and ur marriage are equally bblessed beautiful within!
