Asking for a Friend

Transcription
Melissa, I have a request to make. It's not so much for me as it is for a friend (though I will cosign it), not my friend, but yours: the friend is Janelle; the request is:
PUSH FORWARD
I don't know all the details, but I know you're tired of doctors' visits. I know you're tired of being poked & prodded. I know you're tired of thinking about insurance. It's making me tired just thinking about it, but that's ridiculous; I need to dust myself off, I've got a job to do, my boss Janelle says I have to motivate you! But who am I? What can I say, laid here in dry ink, that could possibly reach your living, breathing being? Should I reach into my poetry bag of tricks to pull out persisting words, verses that have set flame to my own dead brush? "Did you hear about the rose that grew from a crack in the concrete? "Be thou, Spirit fierce, My spirit" Be thou me, impetuous one! Drive my dead thoughts over the universe like wither'd leaves to quicken a new birth " or "Don't you fall now, For I'se still goin", honey, I’se still climbin’ And life for me ain't been no crystal stair But with this or anything writ, I will fall short in my mission, so I will defer to the greater poet for whom I play the mere messenger: Janelles heart, a beautiful beat poet, who invites your heart, Melissa, to sing along in tune that epic poem we share: The Poem of Life, Love, & Friendship! Now get well soon!!!
