Friendship, Handing, Fresh
by chris the poet
People don't always pay friendship the mind it deserves
preferring to observe it as a secondary, passive
connection compared to those deemed more worthy,
romantic relationships, familial relationsh eee
’
I won't insist upon some reversal in the volta turn
of this poem, where like Jesus I insist that 1
leave your family or otherwise behind to follow
some path of brotherhood and sisterhood through the
Worldeece
I would only insist on this--that the friéndships we grow
bring us as fresh, bountiful, and vital a harvest
to our lives as any other fruit or vegetable of the heart...
The heart that you are handing in one hand to your lover
is the same heart you hand to your mother,
and the heart you hand to your friend is
no other, despite any difference in
how you present it, how it is taken and keptece
Your friendships, if you are blessed, may be your most
long lasting, essential relationships in this life,
your relationships of all kinds to other people
who keep you likewise, the most important treasures
you'll find in your days...
Keep eachother's backs, keep eachother's hearts!
